Living Large in Italy

We landed in Italy as emissaries of This adventure-travel-reality show began when a group of guys quit their safe and stable professional jobs to live a picaresque life. The JS0 mission: to demonstrate that it’s possible to travel like well-heeled jetsetters on “zero” dollars. JS0 sends adventure-seeking 20-something cast members, along with a camera guy, to hot spots across the globe for three-month seasons. The challenge: Find jobs, housing, and creative ways to live large for little in a new location.

We discovered Jet Set through our friends Holly, Jen and Amanda, authors of the recently released The Lost Girls: Three Friends. Four Continents. One Unconventional Detour Around the World. Despite submitting a goofy amateur audition video, Perrin and I were somehow selected!

Our next task was to find work. Luckily Courtney, a fellow Italy cast member, knew of a summer camp called ACLE, where travelers from English-speaking nations teach their native language to school children in locations ranging from the Italian Alps to the tip of Italy’s toe. We both applied — a painful process involving prodigious lesson planning — and were accepted!

We will spend six weeks hopping from one Italian town to another as itinerant English teachers. In each spot, we will live with Italian families. So, when our day jobs are done, we’re hoping to discover secrets of concocting some of Italy’s famous dishes.

About sistersbailey

We are Perrin and Sarah Bailey, collectively known as “The Sisters Bailey”. The moniker was born out of a crazy weekend at the 2009 New Orleans Jazz Fest and it was the first time we had ever been referred to as one unit. We grew up in Alexandria, VA together and then separated for college - Perrin to The University of Pennsylvania and Sarah to Northwestern University – and somehow landed together in New York after graduation. It was in the midst of the hustle of Manhattan that we became friends for the first time in years. Somehow we landed jobs in the same industry - Sarah worked in marketing at HBO and Perrin managed creative digital promotions for her media agency’s main client, Disney - just three blocks from one another. One day we decided to leave our jobs, sell our belongings and travel abroad with a backpack and a collective savings of $10K. The stories of our continuing adventures and those of other fearless travelers are here to inspire you.
